Compass Workshop on the Trail!

Since the 1990s, Steve Caldwell has developed skills in navigating the backcountry of the Catskills, Adirondacks, White Mountains, and Colorado Rockies. He started with nothing but a map and compass, as GPS was not yet commercially available. The use of a map and compass is still the standard for many back country destinations as no electricity is required. Join Steve in the Beech Mountain Forest Preserve to learn how to use a map and compass and explore the wild with intention, precision, patience, and presence. These traditional land navigation skills can help you move with confidence off-trail, and hone not just your technical skills, but your appreciation for reading landscapes.

Meet at Lew Beach Community House, 32 Shin Creek Rd, 10am

Ages 10+, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Free and open to the public! Dress for the weather, and pack your own water and lunch!
